Brian Hoad, from above, welcomed discomfort
Brian Hoad (b.1992) is a visual artist originally from Port Hope, ON. He received his BFA (honours) in 2015 from Queen’s University and MFA (Visual Art) in 2017 from the University of Regina. Prior to attending Queen’s, Hoad served as a full-time studio assistant to David Blackwood while receiving instruction in traditional oil painting methods, copper etching, and woodcut. His practice has been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation.
Brian’s MEGA print called from above, welcomed discomfort was inspired by a short story about people living in the mountains because they thought higher altitudes would preserve youth. The tree house was built by Brian with a few friends out over the water one year. It was three floors, and by no means up to “code”.
