Critical Mass presents
Thinking Beyond the Blue Box
An Art Show & Sale – for All!
August is Arts Month in Port Hope. To coincide with Port Hope Arts Festival, Critical Mass has partnered with Beyond the Blue Box to host an Art Show & Sale (for ALL) that will be exhibited at The Capitol Theatre from Saturday, August 12th to Saturday, August 26th.
Artists and aspiring artists of all ages, abilities and skill levels are invited to participate in Thinking Beyond the Blue Box – An Art Show and Sale for ALL. This show challenges artists in new ways of thinking about sustainability and repurposing thrift store finds into new and contemporary works of art.
Critical Mass brings contemporary art experiences to our community to make it a vibrant, and more inclusive place for all. We believe in removing barriers so that everyone can access and participate in art experiences. We couldn’t be more pleased to partner with Beyond the Blue Box to present an Art Show & Sale that is truly for all!
How it works:
If you wish to participate in the Art Show & Sale, you must sign up on our Artist Participant Form. Scroll down to fill out the form out below. Or drop by the Little Station Thursdays from 6-8pm or Saturdays 10-2pm to sign up in person.
Visit Beyond the Blue Box (main store) between July 7th & July 28th. Located at: 14 Covert Street, Cobourg. Your name must be on the participant list to participate.
You may select up to a maximum of 5 unpriced weighted items available at Beyond the Blue Box. (i.e. items typically sold by weight). This may include formerly donated artworks, or other items such as lamps, mirrors, plates, albums, fabric… whatever calls to you!
These items are complementary, courtesy of Beyond the Blue Box. Please note, that these items must be incorporated into your artwork at the final show & sale. If you do not wish to sell your artwork, we will mark it as ‘not for sale’ and you may pick it up after the show concludes on August 27th.
Bring your selected items to the counter and notify the cashier that your name is on the Art Show & Sale participant list.
Beyond the Blue Box cashiers will weigh your items to track how much weight is being diverted from the landfill as a result of this art show and sale.
Now it’s time to get creative. Reimagine your thrift store finds to make your sustainable art masterpiece!
Bring your final artwork(s) to Critical Mass (at the Little Station on Lent Lane) on select drop-off dates, by August 3rd. We will need time to photograph and prepare all submissions for the exhibition on August 12th.
Drop off your artwork with your completed Artist Documentation Sheet. We will also have someone available onsite to help you complete your form during our drop-off times.
Number of Submissions:
Artists may submit up to 3 artworks for the Show & Sale.
Size / Weight Restrictions:
Artworks must fit into a standard size car, and be light enough for one person to carry.
